Just after midnight this morning a Butte man was killed in a hit and run,

County first responders found a 38-year-old Butte man at 

Garfield and Locust  who had been hit by a car. He  was pronounced dead at the scene.

A press release from Sheriff Ed Lester said that the suspect vehicle did not stop, but was believed to have continued southbound on Garfield. The car then turned west on Grand Avenue.

At the time of this release, neither the car or the driver had been located by the police. The car was believed to be dark in color, the release said.

The investigation is ongoing. The Montana Highway Patrol and the Butte-Silver Bow Coroner’s office are assisting in the investigation.

Police are reaching out to anyone in the area who have home security cameras that may have recorded the incident.

The deceased man’s body has been sent to the Montana State Crime Lab for autopsy.

The man’s family has been notified, His name is being withheld pending notification of other family members, the sheriff noted.
