Calling all carvers!
The Annual Ice Carving Contest is coming to Uptown Butte on Saturday, December 10th. And ice artists are now being recruited.
Anyone with interest in carving, at all levels of expertise, from novice to expert, is invited to join the fun and compete for prizes and bragging rights. The call is out for carvers with an inclination to try carving ice (similar to wood carving) to contact us for more details so we can match you with a business sponsor. It’s fun and carvers will compete for prizes in different categories. If you want to learn more about being matched with a block of ice, contact Corey Gransbery at
Everyone is invited to join the rest of Butte in the Historic Uptown for an Icy Reception. Throughout the day, enjoy the Annual Ice Carving Contest from 9 am to 3 pm. Over the past decade, it has become a great day to support local businesses by shopping, or by catching a meal at one of Uptown's great restaurants.
Until 3 pm, look for action all over the Hill as carvers chip away at ice blocks (each weighs more than 340 pounds) in front of Uptown businesses. Then judges will cast a cold eye on the carvings and rank them in adult, rookie, and child categories for prizes and bragging rights.
Shoppers can watch, from a safe distance, the progress throughout the day as carvers uncover beautiful carvings from within frozen ice blocks. Look for ice carving teams competing for prizes in a variety of categories at locations all over Uptown Butte.
