Wednesday, at mid afternoon, Butte police responded to a 911 report that a man had fired several shots on the 200 Block of South Dakota Street, Sheriff Ed Lester texted.

Officers were on scene in less than two minutes. A man was detained there, and a handgun was recovered. There were no physical injuries.

Witnesses told police that there had been an argument in the residence at 213 South Dakota Street. Allegedly, shots had been fired both inside and outside the residence during the disturbance.

There is no ongoing danger to the public, the text noted.

Sheriff Lester anticipates that charges would be filed Wednesday afternoon.
